120,000 admissions in 1 day: Napoleon is already conquering the French box office

Ridley Scott has one of his best starts in France, ahead of Virginie Efira and the SF animated film, Mars Express.

We don’t know if it will last for “One Hundred Days”, but the first of the reign of Napoleon in French cinemas is impressive. This Wednesday, the Emperor of Ridley Scott won over 113,000 spectators, in a vast park of more than 700 rooms. An excellent start, with an average of 150 tickets sold per theater, and on arrival the 19th best start of the year, ahead of films like Indiana Jones 5 (released in June).

An astonishing performance for a 2h40 biopic, not really spared by the French press in recent times, notably mocked for its liberties with historical reality.

Napoleon does much better than House of Guccithe previous film of Ridley Scott (33,000 admissions on its first day in 2021) and even achieved the best start in France for the filmmaker since Alien Covenant (143,000 spectators). The record dating back to Gladiator (195,000 tickets in 2000).

Joaquin Phoenix in any case takes over the French box office and could reign there for a while. Virginie Efira must give up his arms. Nothing to loseher latest film by Delphine Deloget, and presented at Cannes in the Un Certain Regard category, placed in second position, far behind, with 15,000 admissions.

Small disappointment for the excellent French SF animated film, Mars Express. Jérémie Périn’s film, acclaimed by critics, completes the podium with just 10,000 spectators in the rocket for its launch, in a park nevertheless limited to 174 theaters.
