20 years later, Denzel Washington will reunite with Spike Lee

Together, they will make a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s classic, Between Heaven and Hell.

This will be their fifth collaboration. Spike Lee will lead Denzel Washington in a new film, after Malcolm X (1992) or He Got Game (1998). The filmmaker and the Oscar-winning actor had not worked together since the thriller Inside Man (in 2006) and their reunion, 20 years later, will be an Apple event, to be seen in cinemas possibly (the film will be distributed by A24 in the United States) or directly in streaming on the AppleTV+ platform.

This new film will be a thriller, an English-language remake of the thrillerAkira Kurosawa titled Between heaven and hell, released in 1963 with Toshiro Mifune. It was already based on Ed McBain’s novel “King’s Ransom”, which tells of the ruin of a businessman following the payment of a ransom to the kidnappers.

Titled High and Low (which was the English title of Kurosawa’s film), the new Spike Lee will be written by Alan Fox and Spike Lee.

No other names in the casting. Production will begin next March. No release date yet.
