A House of the Dragon star could become James Gunn’s Supergirl

Milly Alcock is in competition, notably, with Emilia Jones, the star of CODA.

She amazed her world, in the summer of 2022, by playing the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in season 1 of House of the Dragon. For 5 episodes, before Emma D’Arcy took over the role, Milly Alcock played the teenage version of King Viserys I’s sweet daughter. And the Australian actress, now 23 years old, could well land another major role.

According to Deadline, she is on the short list to play Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl aka Superman’s cousin. The character will be entitled to his own film entitled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowbased on the recent book by Tom King.

Milly Alcock would likely compete for the job with Emily Jones. The 21-year-old English actress revealed herself in the series Locke & Key of Netflix before exploding in CODAthe US remake of The Aries FamilyOscar for Best Film in 2022. A third, lesser-known candidate, the American Meg Donnelly (crossed in the sitcom American Housewife) would be in the running.

The film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is not planned for release right away, and does not even have an assigned director yet. But if DC Studios and James Gunn are in a hurry to cast their star, it’s because she could make an appearance in the first part of the new DC Universe, namely Superman: Legacy. Moreover, James Gunn, who will direct the film this year, is very involved in the casting process of Supergirl and should oversee the screen tests with these three actresses, which will take place next month.

We should therefore quickly have news Supergirlafter Helen Slater (in the 1984 film), Laura Vandervoort (in Smallville), Melissa Benoist (in the series Supergirl) and more recently Sasha Calle (who played the character in The Flash).

Supperman:legacy will be released on July 11, 2025.
