A reboot of The Office is in development

This reboot will be led by Greg Daniels, who adapted the original British series into an American version with Steve Carell.

While the writers’ union (Writers Guild of America) managed to reach an agreement with the organization bringing together the major film and television studios (Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers), projects in development which have been delayed or kept silent are beginning to be revealed. According to Puck News, a reboot of the series The Office would thus be in the pipeline. And it will be piloted by Greg Daniels, the screenwriter who adapted the British version of the original series created by Ricky Gervais for the American channel NBC. He is also the creator of the series Parks and Recreation, Upload And Space Force.

Last year, Greg Daniels detailed his vision of the project in an interview for Collider : “I can’t say if fans want to see more, and when I say see more, I don’t think it will be the same characters. I think it will be an expansion of the universe, you know what I mean, a bit like The Mandalorian which is an expansion of Star Wars. But I don’t know if it’s something people want or not, it’s hard to say.

This reboot project was not easy, since Daniels initially refused to take the plunge, saying he didn’t have time to devote to it, only to change his mind in March 2022. With new hope of an end to the strike, fans will then be able to get a opinion on TOCU, The Office Cinematic Universe. The original British version was broadcast between 2001 and 2003 and only has 2 seasons, the American version (the most famous with Steve Carell in leading role) has 9 seasons broadcast between 2005 and 2013.

After 146 days of strike, Hollywood finally emerges from the crisis
