A Red Hot Chili Peppers biopic is in the works!

The memoirs of Anthony Kiedis, leader of the group, have just been purchased by Universal.

Californication in Hollywood? While biopics on singing stars are increasingly trendy (the one on Bob Marley or the one on Michael Jackson are coming this year), Universal will tackle Red Hot Chili Peppers. More precisely to its charismatic singer and leader, Anthony Kiedis. The studio has just purchased the rights to his successful memoir, entitled “Scar Tissue” and published in 2007, to make a film.

Kiedis himself will produce the project with Brian Grazer, famous producer ofAn exceptional man, Apollo 13 or the series 24 Hours Chrono.

The studio is already promising an adaptation of the book which will be “un incredibly candid portrait of an artist, addict and leader”and will contain “a decidedly unconventional story of father and son set against the backdrop of a drug-fueled ’70s and ’80s Los Angeles punk scene. This story examines, without judgment, how all of his experiences shaped the music that was ultimately embraced by millions.

In short, a very rock n’ roll film!

It remains to be seen which actor will step into the shoes ofAnthony Kiedis or his legendary guitarist, Flea.
