There is a good chance that season 3 of Mindhunter never happens. But the actor Holt McCallany ensures that David Fincher still planning to bring back the Netflix crime drama.
The interpreter of Inspector Bill Tench admits that this sequel seems “very unlikely“, but the filmmaker does not seem to have completely given up on it yet:
“I heard David was thinking about it…” answers Holt McCallany in an interview with Awards Daily. “I’m not saying the series will come back. But what I’m saying is, if she comes back, I’ll come back too! You can be sure of that! I wouldn’t want to miss that. But it will mainly depend on what David wants to do. It’s been a few years now, so it’s likely that season 3 will never happen. But the simple fact that he thinks about it is already a sign of hope…”
Season 2 of Mindhunter was broadcast in 2019 on Netflix.
Last year, David Fincher confided about this season 3: “I’m very proud of the first two seasons. But it’s a particularly expensive show and, in Netflix’s eyes, we haven’t attracted enough of an audience to justify such an investment.” Implied Netflix doesn’t want to pay for a sequel.
