Ahsoka: the season 1 finale explained

Zombietroopers, a magic sword and ancestral gods… We decipher the latest episode broadcast on Disney Plus.

It’s finish. Well, not exactly. Ahsoka has just revealed its finale on Disney Plus, and as the platform writes, it is the “season finale” and not the series. Which implies that a sequel is possible (although season 2 has not yet been ordered). At the same time, it’s hard to see the story ending there! This latest episode poses more questions than it answers. Spoiler alert!

Let’s start with the big winner: Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) won his bet. He managed to return to his Galaxy, to try to revive the Empire against the New Republic. A new war threatens, more than ever!

And his strong comeback is largely due to the Grand Mothers of Dathomir! These powerful witches have played dirty tricks on Ahsoka and his friends in this finale, going so far as to use dark magic to resurrect dead stormtroopers. Yes ! Star Wars just introduced the Zombietroopers, impossible to kill except by piercing their heads. Nice nod to Walking Dead

The sorority also called Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) back to the fold, promoted by the Nightsisters in this latest episode. She regained extraordinary ancestral powers and was even able to brandish the Blade of Talzin, a flaming green sword summoned by magic. First introduced in the series Clone Wars, it was used by Mother Talzin (the leader of the Nightsisters and mother of a certain Darth Maul). Even Jedi Grand Master Mace Windu was unable to overcome it. Morgan Elsbeth thus recovers the weapon to confront Ahsokaand have his revenge after their last duel in The Mandalorian. But she will be defeated and killed.

She still retained Ahsoka and Sabine to stay stuck on this planet in this other galaxy, while Thrawn escaped. The Jedi and her Padawan will find it a long time, before finding a way to return and join (again) Ezra who has found his galaxy and Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), partner of her late master Kanan Jarrus, after years of exile.

Then how Ahsoka will she manage to come back? In any case, she and Sabine will not be alone, abandoned in this foreign galaxy. Thrawn also left behind Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) and his apprentice Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno). The latter finds herself wandering in the wild, and takes the lead of a group of local bandits… But above all, Baylan left to explore this old world in search of another great power, something hidden on the planet he heard about in old Jedi legends. And in a final epic shot worthy of Lord of the Ringswe see him standing in the middle of giant ruined statues.

The statues themselves are in poor condition, suggesting that they have not been visited for centuries. They clearly represent the gods of Mortis, who are descended from an enigmatic race of Force-sensitive and shape-shifting beings. They are called Force Vectors. Three of them, the Gods of Mortis (the father, the son and the daughter) were so powerful that their powers jeopardized the balance of the galaxy. So they went into exile… They are mentioned in Clone Wars and each have a story with Ahsoka and Anakin Skywalker. On the right of the image, viewers of the series can see a statue of the Son, who aligned himself with the dark side. On the left, a nearly destroyed statue of the Girl, which represented the Light Side. And Baylan is seen standing on the outstretched hand of the Father, who has found balance between the two sides of the Force. The symbolism is clear. Unfortunately, the exploration of Baylan Skoll may not go any further in Ahsokabecause the actor Ray Stevenson died suddenly this year, after filming season 1.
