Alban Ivanov reunites with the director of Inséparables for The Crossing

This time, he is not teaming up with Ahmed Sylla, but Lucien Jean-Baptiste. And this comedy is worth a watch, without being revolutionary.

Alex (Lucien Jean-Baptiste) and Stephanie (Audrey Pirault) decide to go on vacation with five young people who have dropped out of school for two weeks, at sea. Small problem: when they arrive in front of Riton (Alban Ivanov), their skipper is a shock: for this former BAC cop who fled the suburbs, these young people are his worst nightmare. This trip to the Mediterranean promises to be colorful, and will undoubtedly allow everyone to have a different vision of the world.

This third film of Varante Soudjian after any Walter And Inseparable. On the occasion of the first unencrypted broadcast of Crossingthis Sunday on France 2, we are sharing our review, initially published for its cinema release, in summer 2022.

In this case, it is about the cohabitation between five out-of-school teenagers led by two neighborhood educators in a crossing of the Mediterranean by boat, skippered by… an ex-BAC cop with a horror of the suburbs (Alban Ivanov, convincing in a more sober register than usual).

The beginning of this film struggles to get rid of a certain caricature in the installation of the characters. But, little by little, Soudjian manages to play with the clichés he has installed, striving to explore these characters beyond appearances and without obsessing over an easy happy ending that would go too far in the celebration of living. together. Good entertainment without revolutionizing the genre.
