Alfonso Cuaron wants to film Jane, with Charlize Theron, next month

A drama about the author of Blade Runner, Philip K. Dick, who was haunted throughout his life by the disappearance of his sister, who died as a baby.

It has already been over a year sinceAlfonso Cuaron got involved with Charlize Theron from Amazon on the project Jane, and finally, this one is about to become reality. The writers’ and actors’ strike put this project on hold for many months, but it would now be ready to shoot.

The Cinemaholic announces the start of shooting for next month, as soon as the actors’ union has reached an agreement with the studios: “Even if the production schedule is already in place, it will only be validated once the strike is over. The filming of the film will then begin in Los Angeles.”

Knowing that the screenwriters’ demands have just been heard, their actor counterparts are confident, which suggests that the strike could end in October. As soon as an agreement is reached, then Jane will immediately enter production, because behind the scenes, everything is already ready.

Hollywood back to work after the strike: which series and films are the studios’ priorities?

In July 2022, we learned that the director of Gravity and of Rome had in mind a biopic with an original concept, since it will tell the life of the writer Philip K. Dick (Blade Runner, Ubik, Total Recall…) through the fictional point of view of his twin sister. Fictional, because in reality, she died when they were only six weeks old. The star of Mad Max: Fury Road will lend his voice to the baby, speaking throughout the film to the mind of the author.

“It will be a moving story, full of suspense, dark and funny at the same time, specifies the official synopsis. It will chronicle the unique relationship between a woman and her twin, a brilliant but troubled man who also happens to be the famous novelist Philip K. Dick. As she tries to help him overcome his problems, whether real or imagined, Jane dives deeper and deeper into his creative world.

Jane will also be a very intimate work, supervised by Isa Hackett, the daughter of Philip K. Dick, who explained when announcing the project: “Jane’s story has lived in me for as long as I can remember. Jane is my father’s twin sister, who died a few weeks after their birth, and who was at the center of his universe. To fit his unique imagination, this film will defy the conventions of the biopic by embracing an alternative reality that Philip K. Dick so cherished, in which his sister would have survived beyond six weeks. We will tell her story. Through his point of view, we will discover his own imagination. There is no better way than the big screen to honor his wish.”

Before Janewhich is co-produced by Charlize Theron via her company Denver and Delilah Productions, the director will have signed a series, Disclaimer, for Apple TV+, a story of dark secrets revealed, with Cate Blanchett, Kevin Cline and Sacha Baron Cohen. Its filming took place from June 2022 to March 2023, which suggests that it will be completed soon. Both projects are also co-financed by Alfonso Cuaron’s own company, Esperanto Filmoj.
