An invasion of spiders in the first Vermin teaser
Sébastien Vaniček delivers a post-confinement survival using horror as a metaphor.
While bedbugs make headlines, Verminthe first feature film of Sébastien Vaniček, comes at the right time. In a city in Ile-de-France, Kaleb (Theo Christinerevealed in Joey Star in Supremes) leads an existence without any real purpose. At 30, he collected galleys and had a passion for exotic animals. When he brings a strange spider home, it escapes and an invasion of deadly arachnids terrorizes the neighborhood. Forced to be quarantined, the inhabitants will have to survive against a horde of spiders becoming bigger and bigger.
The first teaser of Vermin highlights a pronounced taste for the sometimes unusual architecture of the suburbs. The neighborhood becomes a prison from which escape is literally and figuratively impossible. We can already guess the obsessions of this young director, who uses the horror genre as a metaphor for the social divide and the inequalities which have widened during confinement. This intriguing teaser perhaps announces a future filmmaker to follow closely. Jerome Niel (Smoking makes you cough), Finnegan Oldfield (Cut!), Sofia Lesaffre (Wretched) And Lysa Nyarko (of which it is the first film) accompany Theo Christine in this struggle for survival. Vermin will be released in cinemas on December 27, 2023.
