Anatomy of a fall: an exciting Palme (review)

Another prize for Anatomy of a Fall, crowned at the Critics Choice Awards

Oppenheimer took the opportunity to consolidate his status as favorite for the next Oscars.

A week after the Golden Globes, Oppenheimer was crowned again last night, during the Critics Choice Awards. The biopic leaves with 8 awards including best film and best director for Christopher Nolan. But this time, barbie didn’t take the broth. She leaves with six victories, including Best Comedy.

The big twist of the evening was marked by the victory ofEmma Stone For Poor Creatureswho beat Lily Gladstone for the Best Actress trophy. Both were awarded at the Golden Globes last week (in drama and comedy). But as with Critics Choice Awards there is only one Best Actress trophy – like at the Oscars – it was the star of Yórgos Lánthimos who won in this first direct confrontation.

On the French side, we will note the victory ofAnatomy of a fall. Already crowned last week by the Golden Globes, Justine Triet’s film, Palme d’Or at Cannes, once again takes home the prize for Best Foreign Film. On the other hand, this time he did not win the original screenplay prize, awarded to Greta Gerwig And Noah Baumbach For barbie. Which doesn’t bode well for the Oscars, since barbie will be in the running among the adapted scenarios…

On the series side, the Critics Choice Awards did a repeat of the Golden Globes. Succession is crowned Best Series with Kieran Culkin And Sarah Snooke as Best Actor and Best Actress. The Bear is crowned Best Comedy, with Jeremy Allen White And Ayo Edebiri as Best Actor and Best Actress. And Beef (Relentless) won the trophy for Best Limited Series, with Steven Yeun And Ali Wong as Best Actor and Best Actress.

A record that could well be repeated tonight, during the 2024 Emmy Awards, which will be held in Los Angeles.
