Matthew Vaughn: "The success of Barbie and Oppenheimer is not only linked to their quality"

Argylle 2: “If the first film works, there will be strange crossovers”

Matthew Vaughn talks to us about the ending of his film, its astonishing post-credits scene and a potential sequel.

Warning, spoilers to follow if you haven’t seen Argyle.

At the very end ofArgyle, Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard) comes to present her new book and in the audience is the real Aubrey Argylle (Henry Cavill), whom she thought until now had come out of her imagination. It’s difficult to say where the scenario wants to take us, but Matthew Vaughn confirmed to Première a few weeks ago that it’s not a joke: “ Oh, not at all! This will be explained later. Everything is planned for Henry Cavill to return. » Argyle 2 therefore seems to have already been started, at least from the point of view of the scenario.

And the post-credits scene ofArgyle is even more surprising: we see a young Aubrey Argylle (Louis Partridge), in his twenties, entering a bar called King’s Man and being given a wooden box containing a weapon by the owner. Could Argylle and Kingsman take place in the same universes? If the first movie works, everyone will be reunited one day. There will be strange crossovers with spies and tailors », assures us Matthew Vaughn, who refers to the tailors of Kingsman. At the time of the interview, the director obviously did not have access to the rather worrying first figures ofArgyle at the US box office.

And the question arises of the presence of Samuel L. Jackson and Sofia Boutella both in Argyle and the first Kingsman, but in diametrically different roles… How will Matthew Vaughn fare? The number of entriesArgyle will it be enough to launch a new franchise? See you in a few months to find out more.

In the meantime, find our interview with Matthew Vaughn in the new issue of Première, with Dune 2 In front page.
