Excluded – Pierre Niney in The Count of Monte Cristo: “It was obvious”

Like millions of readers around the world, I was marked and transported by the great novel that is Monte Cristo.“, explained the actor when announcing the project. The ambition and strength of the project compel us as much as they inspire us. We want to create a great film of adventure, of characters but above all… of revenge.

This adaptation is ambitious, the duo having obtained a substantial budget to take care of the casting as well as the choices of sets, costumes or combat training so that the action scenes are up to par. This teaser is responsible for giving a taste of all these aspects, several months before its theatrical release.

Pathé also shared his poster:

Dumas' characters are fantastic, teased the director duo in the First of January. It's an asset for bringing in great actors: Anaïs Demoustier, Laurent Lafitte, Anamaria Vartolomei, Patrick Mille, Bastien Bouillon, Vassili Schneider… People from very different worlds like in the story we're telling. (…) Dantes is like Cyrano. It seemed impossible to us to embark on the adventure without having the agreement of the person who was going to embody it. We needed someone capable of being credible at 20 as well as at 40. Someone who is a dark, melancholy and vengeful figure at the same time. Pierre was obvious. (…) It’s the first time we’ve written with an actor in mind.”

the count of Monte Cristo was brought forward by six months: first planned for Christmas at the cinema, it will finally be visible this summer. See you in cinemas from June 28, 2024.
