Lili (Emilie Dequenne) and Simon (Max Boublil) are confronted with their son’s questions about the reasons for their lives in two different homes, despite their love.
Do we have to live together when we are a couple? Could preserving two cocoons be the secret to a couple’s longevity? This is the whole point of Double Hearth. Lili and Simon love each other, but haven’t taken the plunge of moving in. However, their child, Abel, constantly questions this lifestyle, which forces him to grow up between two homes. One day, events call this distance into question.
“What matters to me above all when I tell a story, beyond its subject, is its resonance. That of Lili and Simon, I wanted it to resonate with simplicity and lightness, to be carried by the energy and joy of being in love in a daily life not inevitably promised to boredom and pettiness“, said Claire Vassé in the press kit.
The director Claire Vasséwho co-directed the short film Schrödinger’s Bookstore with Christophe Beauvais, was first known as a film critic, collaborating for eleven years with the monthly Positive (from 1995 to 2006), then to the weekly Zurban (from 2000 to 2006). She has also published several books, among them Soon the beast will be dead (editions du Seuil, 2006), From where you are (Stock editions, 2012), and From you (La Mer Salée editions in 2022).
“Lili and Simon don’t believe in the happiness of living together, but they do believe in the happiness of living together, of making very simple things romantic, of loving each other. This does not, however, protect them from the sadness of losing a loved one or the difficulty in questioning themselves. Lightness does not prevent depth!“
