Every generation has its Tom Ripley. In 1960, this anti-hero imagined by Patricia Highsmith was played by Alain Delon at the height of his beauty in Full Sun, by René Clément. Then it was performed 17 years later by Dennis Hopper in The American Friendbefore Matt Damon played this character usurping the identity of a rich heir exiled in Italy (Jude Law) in The Talented Mister Ripleyin 1999. Barely three years later, John Malkovich lent his features to him in Ripley is having funthen Barry Pepper did the same in 2005.

This year, it's the turn ofAndrew Scottadversary of Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) in the BBC series or “hot priest” from the hit show Fleabag by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, to slip into Tom's costume. This series is created by Steven Zaillian (The King's Fools, The Night of). The Irish actor will be surrounded by Johnny Flynn, Dakota Fanning or John Malkovich. Finally, note that this new version will allow its creators to browse Patricia Highsmith's five books, where the previous adaptations were only inspired by the first volume. Ripley will be available from April 4, 2024 on Netflix.
