Carrie and Twin Peaks actress Piper Laurie dies

Before becoming David Lynch’s Catherine Martell, she was nominated three times for the Oscars.

Star of the big and small screen for 5 decades, Piper Laurie died this weekend. She was 91 years old.

“She was a very beautiful person and one of the great talents of our time“, remembers his agent in Variety when announcing his disappearance.

Piper Laurie had exploded in the 1950s in the film Louise, facing Ronald Reagan, not yet president. She will next star alongside Paul Newman in The Scammer in 1961. A moving role which earned her her first Oscar nomination (Best Actress).

And in the 1970s, Piper Laurie was an essential star of the big screen, first thanks to Carrie at the Devil’s Ball. She was Sissy Spacek’s mother in the 1976 horror film and will then receive a new nomination (Best Supporting Actress). Then in 1986, she made a third appearance at the Oscars for her supporting role in The Children of Silence.

Piper Laurie became a television star in the 1990s with Twin Peaks. For her role as Catherine Martell, she won a Golden Globe and two Emmy nominations (she will have 9 in total in her career).

The actress has become rarer in recent years. We remember her appearance as a possessed teacher in The Faculty (by Robert Rodriguez) or more recently in Undercover: A true storyby Frenchman Yann Demange.
