Bernadette: Catherine Deneuve slips into the skin of Bernadette Chirac (teaser)

Catherine Deneuve joins…. the Marvel Universe!

From Bernadette to Black Widow, there is only one step.

It’s an unexpected casting to say the least. Catherine Deneuve will set foot at Marvel next month. No, she did not film (a priori) a cameo for The Marvels. But she will be the star of the cast of the third season of Marvel’s Wastelanders, an audio series produced by Audible Original with Marvel Entertainment. And the actress – who today plays Bernadette in the cinema – will play Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson in the films), who became Gray Widow!

Obviously, we are not quite in the classic MCU timeline but in a sort of parallel universe. The story of the podcast takes place in the world of comics Old Man Logana futuristic universe in which supervillains have killed most of the superheroes and divided the Earth into several kingdoms…

In previous seasons, Antoine de Caunes voiced an old Star-Lord while Olivier Marchal did an old Hawkeye. This season 3 dedicated to Black Widow so we’ll see Catherine Deneuve make Natasha become Helen Black (voiced in original version by Susan Sarandon).

The pitch: “Nearly thirty years after Victory Day (also known as V-Day), Helen Black (Catherine Deneuve) arrives at his new apartment at The Onar, a 161-story apartment complex in what was once midtown Manhattan. Owned and managed by the US Secret Service SHIELD, this property has become the epitome of the dystopian wealth and inequality that has plagued New York since V-Day. Various wealthy families, including that of media mogul Burge, occupy the sumptuous penthouses of DecaDomes, the top ten floors of L’Onar. Helen Black’s apartment is located in “Block 100”, on a much more modest floor. When her overly nosy neighbor, Dr. Brian Mizuno, asks Helen (through the paper-thin walls) what brought her here, she vaguely mentions “issues with an ex…”. On Helen’s move-in day, Lisa Cartwright takes up her position as Assistant Home Security Analyst at Panopticog Solutions, a private security company commissioned by SHIELD to monitor the residents of Onar – at without their own free will…”

The English version of Marvel’s Wastelanders: Black Widow was written by Alex Delyle (Fear the Walking Dead), directed by Timothy Busfield (Thirtysomething, The West Wing), with sound design and original music by Daniel Brunelle (The Two Princes, Sandra).
