César 2024: 14 short films in the running are available for free on France.TV

Among them, L’acteur, with Raphaël Quenard, or La Machine d’Alex, halfway between Grave and Titane.

14 short films nominated for the 2024 César Awards have been available for free on France.TV since December 15. This is the opportunity to view, a few weeks before the ceremony, the projects considered to win a prize. Are competing: 9 fiction, 3 documentaries and 2 animations.

Among the selected: The actor (or the surprising virtue of incomprehension)a mockumentary produced by Hugo David And Raphaël Quenard, playing his own role. When the latter sees himself headlining a feature film, this selection occurs as a jubilant event, but no one understands why he was chosen. Incomprehension imposes itself as a key word within this short film, in competition with Namur International French-speaking Film Festival, Belgium 2023.

Here are some samples of the other projects in the running. Set Lam of Vincent Fontano, addresses the perpetual fear of a little girl, terrified of losing her loved ones. It’s in the middle of a ritual that his grandmother tells him the strange story of one of his ancestors, Edwardo.

Added to this generous list, Fast (2022) Paul Rigoux, a short film which addresses the shock of the speeds of life: Jean’s slowness acts on his anxieties, which push him to consider himself unfit to live in society. His roommate Alex is the opposite, he is hyperactive and asks far fewer questions. Everyone’s rhythms collide when two guests, one slow and the other hyperactive, join the roommate for a morning.

In a completely different energy, Oyu (2023)Atsushi Hirai offers a moment of relaxation for the end-of-year celebrations. Night falls on the small town of Toyama in Japan. A man finds himself spending his last day of the year in a public bath. He initially went there to retrieve a lost object. The protagonist will then be enveloped in the comforting warmth of a hot bath.

In the light of a generation that loves MMOs (massively multiplayer online role-playing games), The Sun sleeps of Pablo Dury, evokes the romantic and digital relationship of Octave and Flora. They have never seen each other, and this situation becomes more and more burdensome for Flora, impatient to meet Octave. But now, the young man does not intend to meet his girlfriend since he is terribly self-conscious about a burn ravaging half of his face. Will it be possible for Flora to get past this?

To discover the brilliant projects in the running, everything takes place on the France.TV digital platform. The short films will be accessible until March 15, 2024.
