Challengers, the film with Zendaya, will be released in theaters in France

Long planned for an exclusive release on Prime Video, Luca Guadagnino’s film will therefore be released in theaters in France.

Luca Guadagnino. Zendaya. And a love triangle against the backdrop of a tennis competition. Suffice it to say that from the beginning, the film Challengers plot. Especially since everything that had filtered out was slowly increasing the pressure. There was the trailer, very suggestive. Then the first news (“Tennis is the sex” declared actor Josh O’Connor to Empire magazine). However, if Challengers has caused ink to flow in recent months, it is less for its cinematographic promises than for its industrial disputes.

A few months ago, we learned that the film, as far as France is concerned, would not be released in theaters. On June 19, during his press conference on his future programs, Amazon Prime announced that Challengers would avoid French cinemas, pointing to the media timeline. Then, while Guadagnino’s film was supposed to create an event at the Mostra and open the 80th edition of the Venice Film Festival, the actors’ and screenwriters’ strike decided otherwise.

New thunderbolt today: we learned this evening that the romance between Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist will finally have the right to be shown in theaters in France.

A spokesperson for Prime Video France announces that “given the unprecedented events of 2023 which impacted the release of the film Challengers, we made the decision to release the film theatrically in France. Amazon MGM Studios will work with Warner Bros, our long-time partner for worldwide theatrical distribution.”

No release date has yet been filtered, but we are impatiently waiting to be able to climb onto the stands and discover this tennis film like no other.
