Chris Hemsworth recounts how George Miller recruited ex-convicts and bikers for Furiosa

According to the star, the director was looking for authenticity for the characters in the film.

After almost a decade of waiting, Furiosathe spin-off on the character discovered in Mad Max: Fury Roadwill finally be released in cinemas in spring 2024. George Miller is still in charge and thanks to a roaring trailer, fans discovered Anya Taylor-Joy in the role of the young warrior and Chris Hemsworth as Warlord Dementus.

During the Red Sea Film Festival, Chris Hemsworth spoke with the filmmaker Baz Luhrmannwhose remarks were relayed by Collider. While the trailer introduced us to Dementus as a rival to Immortan Joe, future antagonist of Mad Max: Fury Road and master of Furiosa, we discover that this character is surrounded by bikers as close guard. The actors playing these bikers were recruited based on their personal stories and are real ex-convicts and biker gang members.

Chris Hemsworth details the casting process put in place by George Miller : “A lot of actors… Some were former criminals, one was a Hell’s Angel, people who led very unique and complicated lives. He (George Miller) interviewed them, and he didn’t make them read the script, but he asked them to tell him a story, to tell him about their lives. Suddenly there was a truth, as if considering them for the first time”, says the star.

What could be better than real bikers to embody the hordes of barbarians who terrorize the Wasteland? Let’s hope that this casting choice brings real added value to the film and that these profiles are highlighted for what is unique about them. It also gives us more background on the character of Dementus, Furiosa’s kidnapper. The trailer shows us the Warlord at the controls of a tank on which the horses are replaced by two motorcycles, confirming his preference for two-wheeled machines.

We have the right to expect even more crazy vehicles just as legendary as Max’s Ford Falcon in the first parts, or the gigantic tank truck from Fury Road. Furiosa will be released in theaters on May 22, 2024, and there’s always time to rewatch the trailer to prepare for the shock.
