Christian Bale joins Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Frankenstein

While last August, we had already heard of a major project with a five-star cast gathered around the director Maggie Gyllenhaalwho wears this cap for the second time, Christian Bale confirm to The Hollywood Reporter that he will appear in this production alongside Jessie Buckley, Annette Bening, Penelope Cruz And Peter Sarsgaard : “I will be working with the wonderful Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jessie Buckley and many other very talented actors.”

This film will mark the second collaboration of Bale and Gyllenhaal, after The Dark Knight, in 2009, in which they play the couple Bruce Wayne – Rachel Dawes. This time, Maggie Gyllenhaal will helm the project, and Bale’s on-screen partner will be played by Jessie Buckley.

Oscar winner for his role in fighter by David O. Russell, Christian Bale has never hesitated to transform himself for his roles: he lost a few dozen kilos to The Machinist And fighterliterally doubles in volume for American Bluff And Vice, a film for which he also underwent makeup sessions lasting five hours a day. This time, he will have to shave his head, he announces, resigned. And he jokes: “I have to get to work, break bones and eat fertilizer to try to grow.”

If the main casting is now revealed, the synopsis of this new project remains unclear. One thing is certain, he will not be able to repeat the narrative arcs of the film of the same name by James Whale for which Universal holds the rights. This Warner production will therefore have to be directly inspired by Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein or the modern Prometheus. Hence an indecision as to the limits of the role that Christian Bale will play: will he be Doctor Frankenstein, the creature or a combination of the two?
