Dakota Johnson talks about Hollywood and “nepo babies”

“They want to choose security but it’s really boring,” says the Madame Web actress about film producers.

Starring in the next Spiderverse film Madame Webunder the Sony/Marvel banner, Dakota Johnson spoke out on several rather hot topics in Hollywood, such as the difficulty of obtaining financing, even when you are an established star, or the phenomenon of “nepo babies”herself being the daughter of two American actors.

In a first interview for The Officialthe leading actress of Fifty Shades of grey did not mince words about his frustration regarding the obstacles to obtaining financing in the independent film world.

“We made a film called Daddio (with Sean Penn) which was sold in Telluride to Sony Classics, which was amazing, she explains, but it took a lot of fighting to get there.”

She explains that financiers are often reluctant to face independent projects like Daddiodespite the presence of two celebrities like Sean Penn and her in the casting.

“People are so scared, and I wonder: ‘For what ? What will happen if you do something brave?’, she continues, it’s like no one knows what to do and everyone is scared. That’s what it feels like. Everyone who makes decisions is afraid. They want to choose security but it’s really boring.”

In a second television interview for the show Today, Dakota Johnson gave his opinion on the phenomenon of nepo babies. As Maya Hawkeshe is the daughter of two Hollywood stars: Don Johnson And Melanie Griffith. Nevertheless, she takes a step back from the subject: “When this first started, I found it incredibly annoying. If you’re a journalist, write about something else. It’s just plain stupid”, she says.

She adds that unlike some nepo babies having received help from their parents, her career choice pushed her to fend for herself. When her father learned that she would not go to college to become an actress, “he cut me off”, says the star.

“It was difficult but I managedremember Dakota Johnson. He told all my brothers and sisters… He calls it ‘wages’it’s an allowance… He told us: ‘If you go to university you will receive the allowance’ and I said I was going to be an actress. So he replied: ‘okay well you’re all alone.’”
