In 1972, Karl Lagerfeld (Daniel Brühl) was 38 years old and was not yet wearing his famous ponytail. He is a ready-to-wear designer unknown to the general public. While he meets the sulphurous Jacques de Bascher (Théodore Pellerin), an ambitious and disturbing young dandy with whom he falls in love, the most mysterious of fashion designers will dare to measure himself against his friend (and nevertheless rival) Yves Saint Laurent ( Arnaud Valois), genius of haute couture, supported by the formidable businessman Pierre Bergé (Alex Lutz).

Kaiser Karla French mini-series announced just a year ago, finally becomes “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld”. Gaumont, Jour Premier and Disney+ share the first images of this show inviting the public to dive back into the world of fashion, “in the heart of the 70s in Paris, Monaco and Rome, completes the synopsis, to follow the incredible emergence of this complex and iconic personality of Parisian couture, already driven by the ambition to become the Emperor of fashion. Between glamor and conflicts of egos, grandiose parties and destructive passions, discover the story of Karl before Lagerfeld.”

Alongside the actorInglourious Basterds and of Rushwe also see in this first teaser Agnès Jaoui, who has just received an honorary César, in the costume of Gabrielle Aghion, the founder of the house of Chloé, who largely contributed to the notoriety of Karl Lagerfeld.

Karl Lagerfeld: the fashion giant’s film career

Directed by Jérôme Salle (Kompromat) and Audrey Estrougo (Supremes), the six-episode series is taken from the biography of Raphaëlle Bacqué, published in 2019 by Albin Michel. The adaptation is co-signed by the author, as well as Isaure Pisani-Ferry (Robbers) and Jennifer Have (Unfaithful). Dominique Baumard (The Young Imam) and Nathalie Hertzberg (The Goldman Trial) also participate in writing.

While its first two episodes have just been announced within the CanneSeries selection, Disney+ specifies that this new show made in France will be broadcast on June 7 on the platform.
