David Fincher is “discreetly” working on an American remake of Squid Game
An idea mentioned last year is being confirmed: Netflix’s flagship Korean series could soon have a US version.
In April 2023, Hollywood reporter Jeff Sneider revealed that Netflix was considering an American remake project from his very popular Korean series Squid Game. The managers of the platform are said to have courted a leading director and producer of their platform, David Fincherto imagine this new version of the sadistic game.
Hire the director of Seven to imagine painful traps, why not? Especially since the person concerned multiplies the projects with the platform: on the series side, he participated in House of Cards, Mindhunter Or Love, Death and Robotsand on the film side, he directed his last two productions at Netflix: Mank (2020) and The Killer (2022). During the promotion of the latter, he explained in First trust Netflix and want renew your contract with them once againthus moving ever further away from Hollywood cinema and its traditional studios.

On the other hand, he regretted the cancellation of his series on the creation of the branch of the FBI specializing in tracking down serial killers, explaining that Mindhunter costs Netflix too much compared to what the show makes. Due to lack of sufficient audiences, there should not be a season 3.
World of Real recently contacted Jeff Sneider, who assures them that “David Fincher is quietly working on Squid Game.” He specifies that the streaming service would like “ardently” that he is the one to direct this show, and says that Fincher would have accepted this position as director. Or even a showrunner? A post from Production Weekly dating from October 2023 did mention a “Squid Game american remake” with David Fincher named alongside him, but only as producer.
All this therefore remains to be confirmed, at a time when the South Korean series will have the right to a season 2 very soon : the first images are part of Netflix’s 2024 super-teaser.
