David Lynch wants to make an animated film

The 78-year-old filmmaker is trying to sell Snootworld, recently rejected by Netflix.

Almost 20 years after his last feature film, Inland EmpireEdit (in 2006), David Lynch will he ever return to the cinema? The 78-year-old American filmmaker has not given up and still hopes to direct Snootworldan animated film.

In an interview with Deadline, David Lynch reveals that, even if Snootworld – written twenty years ago – was recently rejected by Netflix, he still wants to put into images the script he wrote with the author Caroline Thompson (to whom we owe in particular the scripts of Funeral wedding And Edward Scissorhands).

“I don't know when I started thinking about Snoots, but I was making these drawings of Snoots and then a story started to emerge. I got together with Caroline and we worked on a script. Just recently, I I thought someone might be interested in supporting this project. I pitched it to Netflix over the last few months, but they rejected it.”

The filmmaker immediately admits that his Snootworld is more ” old fashioned ” than most modern animated films, making it a bit harder to sell to studios. He had hoped to pass the torch to his daughter, Jennifer, but too busy, he feels he is ““It's better if I or someone else runs it.”

David Lynch adds, explaining that “Snootworld is kind of an old-fashioned story and today's animation is more about jokes and gags. Old-fashioned fairy tales are considered corny: apparently people don't want to see them. It's a different world today and it's easier to say no than to say yes. I like this story. It's something that both children and adults can enjoy..” And the director concludes: “I've never really done pure animation before, but with today's computers it's possible to do spectacular things.”

We therefore understand that if a studio or a financier follows it, then David Lynch will embark on the production of a new film, Snootworld.
