Death of Lee Sun-Kyun: Parasite and Dr Brain actor was 48
He was found dead in a car in Seoul. He would have ended his life.
The South Korean press announced last night the disappearance of Lee Sun Kyun, at only 48 years old. In France, the actor was best known for his role in Parasite, by Bong Joon-ho, which enjoyed resounding success in 2019: after winning the Palme d’Or that year, this thriller attracted 1.9 million French people to theaters. He played Dong-ik, the father of the wealthy Park family.

In South Korea, the actor had made his breakthrough well before this success, notably thanks to Hong Sang-soo who has offered him multiple roles since then. Night and Day in 2007. They met again for Oki’s Movie, Haewon and the men And Sunhi in the following years. Lee Sun-Kyun also played the detective in the thriller Hard Daynoticed in 2014, and participated in the series Dr.Brainfor which he was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Actor in 2022. Lee Sun-Kyun was married to actress Jeon Hye-Jin (Sado) since 2009. She was the one who alerted the authorities after discovering a suicide note. He was found shortly after lifeless in a car in Seoul. His death is believed to be linked to an investigation into drug use. Opened in October, it pushed him to abandon his series No Way Out, whose production had just started. He had two children, born in 2009 and 2011.
