Denis Villeneuve will only make Dune 3 “if it is better than the second part”

Some members of the cast are already ready to sign, but Denis Villeneuve wants to take a step back before starting a third production.

Denis Villeneuve recently committed to honoring a third part of Dune, if and only if this sequel is better than the second opus. The third film should be based on the novel Dune Messiah of Frank Herbert. This statement could not be more Dantesque when we know that Dune: Part Two caused a sensation both among critics and the public. The interstellar epic has crossed the $500 million mark at the global box office – and it’s not over yet!

I made both films one after the other, which makes perfect sense to me, the director recently told the magazine Empire, I felt it was a good idea to move forward immediately after the first part. We were already designing and writing and so on, but that also meant that for six years I was on Arrakis non-stop, and I think it will be healthy to take a step back. First of all, you have to make sure you have a solid storyline. What I want to avoid is not being ready. I've never done it, and now I think it might be dangerous because of the enthusiasm. We need to make sure all ideas are on paper.

If we go back, it has to be real, it has to be relevant. If I ever do Dune Messiahit's because it will be better than the second parthe added. Otherwise, I don’t do it.”

The director of Prisoners, has long expressed interest in making a third film Dune. Before the opening of Dune: Part Twothe filmmaker told fans he was close to completing a script based on Dune Messiah. He also told the press that he was convinced that the second part was better than the first part, so perhaps a third installment will be no exception and will raise the bar even higher.

For me, the second part is much better than the first part, also declared the filmmaker, There is something more lively. There is a relationship with the characters. I was trying to achieve an intensity and quality of emotions that I didn't reach with the first part and which I was able to touch with the second part. I'm not saying the movie is perfect, but I'm much more satisfied with the second part than the first.”

Many of the actors in Dune have already expressed interest in a third film. The director admitted that Florence Pugh And Léa Seydoux had minor roles, but that these would be developed in a third film.

Would we be enchanted? Obviously, added Zendaya in Fandango about making another film Dune. Every time Denis calls, I automatically answer yes. I can't wait to see what happens. I started reading Messiah and I said to myself: “Woah, I'm only shooting the first movie.” It's so much to handle, but there are no better hands with more care and love than Denis.

Dune: Part Two continues its dazzling success in theaters.
