Disappearance of Jean-Roger Milo, face of French cinema

Seen in particular in Germinal and L’As des as, the actor died at the age of 66.

Jean-Roger Milo was known for his supporting roles which he insisted on honoring as if they were the first. The actor’s disappearance was announced in an Instagram post by Cécile Bois. The actress starring in the TF1 series Candice Renoir was the actor’s playing partner on the set of Germinal.

“I kept my distance as his force of play pulverized everything I had seen or experienced.

The actor has participated in promising projects, notably with Bertrand Tavernier in L.627as well as in Samson Balestra in Group Shot. At the beginning of the 80s, the actor had the opportunity to film with Jean-Paul Belmondo in The Ace of Aces as well as in The misfit.

The most defining role of his career was that of Antoine Chaval in Germinal by Claude Berri released in 1993. Chaval is a raw fictional character, skinned alive by the harshness of the miner’s profession. The actor stood out for his convincing performance, particularly when it came to standing up to a persuasive Gérard Depardieu in his role as a revolutionary trade unionist from the North. The role earned him a César nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 1994.
