Doctor Strange 2 reportedly cost nearly $300 million

According to Forbes magazine, the amount of the marketing budget would not be taken into account in this figure…

After a series of creative conflicts with Marvel, Scott Derrickson, director of the first Doctor Strangehad finally given way to Sam Raimi during the post-production of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesssecond episode of the adventures of the supreme sorcerer, released in may 2022.

After multiple changes in direction in the script, the film had encountered problems during its shooting, delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Many reshoots had taken place after the resumption of filming at the beginning of 2022, just a few months before the official release of the film on May 6 of the same year.

To Hell 2: Sam Raimi tries to “find a new story that would work!”

According to Forbes magazine, this Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would not have cost 200 million, as announced in the initial budget, but indeed 294.5 million… without taking into account the marketing budget, which would cost around 150 million additional dollars according to SlashFilm: “During the year 2022, 135.3 million dollars were spent in the creation of this film, the majority conceived in post-production. Combining this figure with the $213.7 million that has already been injected during pre-production and filming, we arrive at a total of $349 million. 54.5 million dollars were finally able to be reimbursed, which brings us to a total of $294.5 million budget.

The reimbursement of the $54.5 million comes from a British company employed by Disney, Supreme Works Production 2, which is part of a British government program, which partially reimburses certain films shot in the territory.

It is therefore the most expensive film produced by Marvel Studios since Avengers: Endgame with its $356 million budget. If the film was finally a real success, with nearly 955 million dollars in international revenue, this revelation comes as the Walt Disney Company has been chaining failures at the box office for several months, with a rather weak start for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny And Elementarythe latest from Pixar studios.
