Unsurprisingly, after his first exceptional day, Dune: part two records the best start of the year 2024 with 1.3 million admissions recorded in 994 theaters. A huge score, for an equally large cast, which allows Denis Villeneuve to beat his own record: until now, his best debut at the French box office was that of Dunewhich attracted just one million curious people in the first week of 2021. It was then offered on 647 screens.

This sequel seems on track to easily double the 3.1 million admissions of its predecessor: looking back, we haven't seen a better first week since the box office of barbie, last July. The blockbuster, already produced by Warner Bros. had sold 1.59 million tickets in seven days without counting its previews.

Facing the juggernaut Dune 2only two other new features are included in the weekly top: Madame de Sévignéworn by Karin Viard, has just passed the mark of 100,000 tickets sold in 271 cinemas in France, and Fallen from the truck, with Valérie Bonneton and Patrick Timsit, has accumulated 78,000 in 217 theaters. They respectively take 8th and 9 places in the ranking.

In the rest of the top, we observe a good maintenance of family productions, boosted by the school holidays in zones A and B: comedy Dog and cat for example, only lost 15% of attendance, accumulating nearly 900,000 tickets in three weeks, while Kensuke's Kingdom enters the top 10 after a month, thanks to a drop of only 18%, which allows the animated film to cross the 300,000 countermarks exchanged. Retirement home 2, cock-a-doodle Doo And The Last Jaguar are around 25% drop only in the third or fourth week.

Overall, the comedy with Christian Clavier and Didier Bourdon is in the lead thanks to 1.6 million tickets sold for 733 copies, the Bob Marley biopic follows closely with 1.5 million amassed in 877 theaters, and the sequel to film with Kev Adams was seen by 1.1 million curious people in 818 cinemas in France.

If A lifedrama with Anthony Hopkins released last week, remains on the podium thanks to 328,161 additional spectators moved to 489 cinemas, Madame Webreleased the previous Wednesday against Bob Marley: One Loveis no longer in the ranking: you have to go down to 12th place to find this super-production from Sony, which is struggling to reach 400,000 admissions in three weeks.
