The young Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk) is also very good at it.

Richard Eyrethe director of Chronicle of a scandal (2007) was released ten years later My Lady, to be seen again this evening on Arte. If the staging of this drama is nothing exceptional, it is worth a look for the faultless performance of its actors, Emma Thompson on your mind. Here is the review of First.

Taken from the best-seller by Ian McEwan, to whom we also owe the plot of Come back to me, My Lady is primarily for the masterfully nuanced performance of its lead actress, Emma Thompson. The actress is Fiona Maye, a High Court Judge, specializing in family matters. Accustomed to Solomon’s judgment-style decisions, this time she must decide the fate of a young Jehovah’s Witness who refuses a transfusion that could save his life and, at the same time, face the breakdown of his marriage.

If Richard Eyre’s production rarely does better than the average BBC TV film, the actress’ interpretation, with restraint and weighed silences, exudes an intensity which is only reinforced by the ardent performance of young Fionn Whitehead playing the upset teenager.

After My Ladythe channel will rebroadcast Lolaby Jacques Demy, in homage to Anouk Aimée.
