Everything But You star Glen Powell defends romantic comedies

“I always found it stupid when certain actors denigrated certain genres.”

Starring the new romantic comedy Everything except younext to Sydney Sweeney, Glen Powell was questioned by Variety during the Sundance Film Festival, during which he presented his next film directed by Richard Linklater, Hitman. Before discussing this project, the American magazine wanted to return to this romcom.

Everything except you is interested in the unlikely couple that will form Glen Powell And Sydney Sweeney, both invited to a wedding in Australia. To keep up appearances, they agree to pretend to be a couple even though they hate each other. The rest is doubtful…

The romantic comedy seems to be a slightly less popular genre in cinema than it was a few years ago. However, the actor defends body and soul this genre which he absolutely does not find outdated: “I’ve always been a fan of movies in general and always found it stupid when certain actors denigrated certain genres”, he declares. The public is more of the same opinion, since the film has collected more than 100 million dollars internationally – which more than covers its initial budget of 25 million.

When it’s done well it gives the audience so much fun and joy and as an actor you have to play a lot of things. Making fun of and looking down on this kind of film is stupid”, affirms Glen Powell to defend romantic comedies. He does not mince his words about the pleasure he took in seeing the reception of Everything except you : “For me, it was a real pleasure to see the audience dancing outside the theater and feeling so happy after watching a film. Seeing the box office not just stagnate but grow has been such an interesting lesson that sometimes the genres that have been forgotten are the ones that audiences crave the most”, analyzes the star.

Glen Powell promises that the new Twister will not be a reboot

Glen Powell also presented his next film Hitmanwhich he co-wrote with Richard Linklater, director. He plays a police officer posing as a hitman to trap and arrest the people he hires. But his ethics are challenged when he is confronted with a desperate young woman trying to escape an abusive husband. Adria Arjona (Morbius, Six Underground) plays this role and Glen Powell found herextremely hardworking and talented.” Linklater also added that she was “awesome” and that she “contributed a lot to the character and credibility between them”. The star will also appear in Twisterexpected for summer 2024.

And as they never say two without three, Top Gun 3 was recently announced with the return of Tom Cruise, Miles Teller And… Glen Powell. We definitely haven’t finished seeing it in the cinema! Everything except you will be released in France on January 24, 2024.
