Excluded – Catherine O'Hara talks to us about the “intense” filming of The Last of Us – season 2

The actress from Beetlejuice and Mom I Missed the Plane shares several scenes with Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie).

2024 is a busy year for Catherine O'Harawho, in addition to returning in September as Delia Deetz in BeetlejuiceBeetlejuicerecently filmed in the second season of The Last of Us. She was announced in February as “guest” within this sequel still designed by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for HBO, alongside other newcomers: Kaitlyn Dever will play Abby, Isabela Merced will play Dina, Young Mazino, Jesse, and Jeffrey Wright, Isaac Dixon, a character that he was already doubling in video games. What will Catherine's role be? Mystery !

Given that Neil Druckmann once again plans to respect the games while offering new stories to fans, O'Hara can play an existing character as well as a completely new one. And even if she takes up a role from the game, it may very well have changed enormously during its transposition into the series.

If she is careful not to say too much about her role, the actress, who is also a hit thanks to another show, the comedy Welcome to Schitt's Creekreveals having attended a particularly intense filming, alongside the two key actors of the saga: Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie).

“In The Last of Us, all I can say is that my character will appear for three episodes. I'll meet Joel and Ellie there, and… that's about all I can reveal, sorry! My first day of filming, I spent 100% alongside Pedro, it was wonderful, and my second, it was the same but with Bella. Starting directly with them immediately immersed me in the series.”

Knowing that this season 2 will be composed of only 7 episodes (compared to 9 for the previous one), Catherine O'Hara will be very present on the screen. More so than Nick Offerman, Storm Reid and Murray Bartlett, who made an impact on viewers during the first season while only having a handful of scenes. The first two also received an Emmy Award for their respective roles as Bill and Riley.

The Last of Us: the moving episode 3 explained in detail

Catherine O'Hara continues by saluting the talent of the two main actors, who are visibly very complicit on the set, and not at all weighed down by the very dark atmosphere of this show filled with infected people and violent crimes.

“They are two lovely people, she tells us. Good actors, obviously, but who also have an exceptional sense of welcome. I felt welcome, even though everything around us was so intense. I can't detail anything, well if you've seen the beginning, you know what I'm talking about! (laughs) I don't know how their characters manage to hold on, mentally. I also don't know how these actors manage to be so adorable between takes. Of course, they don't experience these horrors, but still: shooting such strong scenes and laughing so much during the breaks, it's crazy! They know how to do things perfectly, they're all in, and I enjoyed being able to observe that live: seeing them become Joel and Ellie, 100%, then becoming Pedro and Bella again… It was intense, I can tell you that!”

Season 2 of The Last of Us is not yet dated by Max, but Catherine O'Hara will be found from September 11 in BeetlejuiceBeetlejuice. Here is its trailer:
