First giant look at new series Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Former Irish rugby player Peter Claffey will play Ser Duncan the Great.

Ser Duncan the Great lives up to his name! HBO just revealed the very first look at the new series Game Of Thronesthe one who will take over House of the Dragon between seasons 2 and 3. Titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knightit takes place a century before the events of the parent series and follows two unlikely heroes wandering Westeros.

And this photo shows us the giant Peter Claffey walking the streets of a bustling city in the 7 Kingdoms. First observation: Duncan will be really very tall. I have to say that Peter Claffeycrossed quickly in Bad Sisters on Apple TV+ then in the British series Wreck, is a former professional rugby player, notably playing for Connacht. He is 1.96 m tall.

Filming is currently officially underway in Belfast, Ireland. HBO announces that Sarah Adina Smith (Hannah) will direct three of the six episodes of the first season. The casting is also complete with the additions of Finn Bennett (True Detective: Night Country), Bertie Carvel (Tea Crown), Tanzyn Crawford (Tiny Beautiful Things), Daniel Ings (Sex Education) and Sam Spruell (Small Axe: Mangrove). Let us remember that the very young Dexter Sol Ansell (recently seen in Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Serpent and the Songbird) was chosen to play Egg, Dunk’s young squire.

“A century before the events of Game Of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros: a naive but courageous young knight, Ser Duncan the Great (aka Dunk) and his little squire, Egg. Set in a time when the Targaryen line still held the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon had not yet faded from the memory of the living, great destinies, powerful enemies and dangerous exploits awaited all of these unlikely friends and incomparable.”

Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight should be released in 2025 on Max.

It will be an adaptation of the ancillary novels by George RR Martin, published in French from 1998 under the title The Knight Errant. We follow the adventures of Ser Duncan and his squire Aegon V Targaryen (known as “the Egg”). Martin published three short stories marked Tales of Dunk and Egg : “The Hedge Knight” in 1998, “The Sworn Sword” in 2003 and “The Mystery Knight” in 2010. The three short stories were later collected and published together as “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” in 2015, this which will therefore be the title of the HBO series.
