First official image of Megalopolis, the new film by Francis Ford Coppola

An architect’s quest to rebuild New York City as a utopia, and who will come up against a corrupt mayor.

While filming has been completed for a year (March 2023), Megalopolis is slowly but surely being completed in post-production. Francis Ford Coppola has just revealed a first official photo, which shows the title logo of the film, affixed to the setting, the city of New York.

This image shows a glimpse of what appears to be a dark New York alley on a rainy night. In the center of the alley, a large statue appears to have been destroyed and leaned against a building. A photo which doesn’t show much but which reveals the sinister atmosphere of the film, consistent with the small details of the plot that we already know.

Indeed, Megalopolis will follow an architect who wants to rebuild New York City after a devastating disaster. He dreams of a utopia but will immediately be confronted by the corrupt mayor of the city, who will not let him transform the city. The story will be inspired by the historic conspiracy between Roman senator Lucius Sergius Catilina and Marcus Tullius Cicero, who found themselves embroiled in a deadly plot.

Adam Driver will be the architect, named Caesar. Forest Whitaker will play the mayor, Frank Cicero, while Nathalie Emmanuel will play his daughter, Julia Cicero. In addition, we will see Jon Voight, Aubrey Plaza, Laurence Fishburne, Shia LaBeouf, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Chloe Fineman, Dustin Hoffman and Giancarlo Esposito in the cast.
