On the occasion of the 35th Palm Springs Festival, Robert Downey Jr.. took the stage to present the Achievement Awards to Cillian Murphywith whom he shares the poster for the explosive Oppenheimer of Christopher Nolan. The actor expressed his embarrassment at not having prepared a speech:

“I feel like I’ve ruined everything because I didn’t write anything and I’m not going to make an excuse, I’m just going to offer an explanation. I got distracted (by) the vacation, I had a cold, then there were two earthquakes,” he said, referring to recent tremors in Japan and California, “that activated my crippling seismology anxiety.“

Cillian Murphy said that when he received the script forOppenheimerhe knew it was an opportunity that didn’t present itself “only once in a career, if you’re lucky”he added : “I knew it was a responsibility and I just accepted it.” In closing, the private actor thanked his family. “Thank you for supporting me.“

Shortly after this event, Oppenheimer emerged as the big winner at the Golden Globes ceremony, winning 5 statuettes, including Best Dramatic Film and Best Director for Chris Nolan, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy and best supporting actor for RDJ. There too, their speeches were full of humor.
