French box office: 3 Jours max at the top, The Animal Kingdom and Consent continue their rise

Local productions are doing well this week, with Second Tour by Albert Dupontel also in the top 5. (Source: Le Film Français)

With 872,669 admissions recorded in the first week (including previews) in 676 cinemas in France, Tarek Boudali is doing better thanks to 3 Days Max that with his previous comedy, 30 Days Max. It still started with more than 500,000 tickets, then ended up crossing a million cumulatively, in 2020. But its record remains that ofMarry me buddywhich sold 900,000 tickets in its first week in 2017, then 2.4 million in total.

The Bande à Fifi comedies are a hit, and this one is therefore no exception to the rule. Better : 3 Days Max brings an overall increase in box office. During the school holidays, the total number of entries increased from 3.3 to 4.7 million in 7 days, which represents one of the best weeks of 2023: the 5 million mark was crossed this summer thanks to the simultaneous exit from barbie and D’Oppenheimerand last February, Philippe Lacheau and his favorite actors had already helped boost the French box office thanks to Alibi.com 2which ended up attracting 4.2 million viewers alone.

3 Days Max is not the only novelty in the ranking, since Second roundby Albert Dupontel, is in the top 5 thanks to 464,003 countermarks exchanged (counting his AVP), and that Saw X is sixth thanks to 315,046 curious people who came to be scared with this new continuation of the horrific saga. The French director had done better with Goodbye idiots, which intrigued 600,000 people in the first week in October 2020, then 2 million in total, with a long break in its operation due to re-containment. For his “reboot” by May 2021, it had sold more than 500,000 additional tickets.

Regarding the franchise with sadistic traps, Saw X starts after No. 3, released in 2006, and the Final chapter of 2010, but it remains above the other parts and should finish its run in the top 3: so far, the biggest successes of the saga are Saw III And Saw II, both of which have exceeded 700,000 entries into France despite their ban on under-16s.

Five excellent reasons to see The Animal Kingdom

Among the continuities, two animated films complete the podium: Paw Patrol – Super Patrol And Trolls 3, which respectively gain 40% and 21% in attendance during this school holiday period. The first attracted 1.7 million spectators in three weeks and has the largest distribution of the moment with more than 1000 copies, and the second is approaching a million in two weeks for 831 cinemas.
Killers of the Flower Moon, by Martin Scorsese, is fifth thanks to 323,558 more spectators, or 741,698 people who came in front of 528 screens in two weeks. An honorable score given its long duration.

We can then note that all the films in the top 10 are above 100,000 admissions. A difficult yearby Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, is the one which suffered the biggest drop in attendance (-46%), but it still accumulated more than 650,000 tickets in two weeks. The Animal Kingdom and the new Exorcist lose little audience (-9% and -12%), and The consent gains 72% of entries in third week! An exceptional increase which can be explained by… a TikTok trend. On this social network, young spectators film themselves leaving the theaters, just after discovering this adaptation of Vanessa Springora’s bestseller. And these reactions generated a snowball effect, which meant that the film gained more audiences (and copies) as the weeks went by. It is thus approaching 300,000 entries.

The thunderous start of Boy and the Heron this Wednesday suggests that next week too, the French weekly ranking will be high.
