French teenagers make a film in homage to Spielberg… and the filmmaker responds to them!

“I can guarantee you that there were a lot of emotions in the room. This story is like a fairy tale.” The filmmaker sent an adorable message to the students of Mulhouse.

4th grade students from Wolf College in Mulhouse made a short film on Steven Spielberg. It was at the end of its theatrical screening, on November 21 at the Bel-Air cinema, that a video message from the illustrious director appeared to congratulate the work of these budding filmmakers.

These adolescents educated in a REP establishment (priority education network) made an 8-minute short film whose storyline features young admirers of Steven Spielberg. The latter defend the work of their idol by sequestering a film critic, after he rated negatively The Fabelmans. Titled A star, the short film generated an unexpected reward for these middle school students. Some of them shared their joy at France 3 :

It’s nice and it makes us happy. OI worked all year and still, we have something finished, it’s good“, explains a student.

With my father and my brothers, we spent entire evenings watching Spielberg films.. I’m very happy to have done that.” says another student.

Spielberg and Scorsese are going to remake The Nerves, as a series!

“I can guarantee you that there were a lot of emotions in the room. This story has everything from a fairy tale. I hope that this video will accompany them throughout the rest of their lives and make them understand that anything is possible when you believe in it”confided to BFM Alsace Olivier Arnold, the professor at the head of the cinema workshop.

But then, how did Steven Spielberg gain access to this short film? In 2022, Mulhouse celebrated the 120th anniversary of the filmmaker William Wyleroriginally from the city and who left to conquer Hollywood in 1922. It was on this occasion that the filmmaker’s daughter, Catherine Wyler, met Olivier Arnold – it was to her that he sent the short film without knowing that She would then forward it to the main interested party, Steven Spielberg.

It was just to show her. And Spielberg wanted to make this video because the film moved him a lot“, explains the professor not without emotion.

This happy event will obviously be a memorable moment for the entire Wolf College film club.
