They also refused to have their names associated with the spin-off despite the money they would have made.

In full promotion of their new series The Three-Body Problem, David Benioff And Dan Weissthe showrunners of Game Of Thronesrevealed to Hollywood Reporter that they hadn’t looked at yet House of the Dragons. The spin-off of GoT telling the Golden Age of the Targaryens on the Throne of Westeros is about to release its second season.

We can understand that after almost a decade of working on Game Of Thrones, Benioff And Weiss wish to leave Westeros for good and do not seek to watch House of the Dragon. But that’s not the most curious thing! The two writers refused to have their names associated with the spin-off, which would have allowed them to earn a tidy sum of money without doing much.

HBO was surprised. I remember their lawyer who told us: ‘It’s just money, we’ll just pay you,’” recalls David Benioff. “I don’t think there is such a thing as free money. For us, if our name is on it, and we are completely detached from it and not very involved (…) it wasn’t worth it”, adds Dan Weiss. The duo thought about it and were willing to turn down a lot of easy money if they weren’t truly committed to the project.

Their new series The Three-Body Problem is an adaptation of the eponymous novel by Liu Cixin and tells how Humanity prepares for the arrival of an extraterrestrial civilization on Earth. The episodes will be available on Netflix from March 21, 2024.

This is what the abandoned Star Wars from the creators of Game of Thrones would have been about
