Game of Thrones: Lena Headey reveals the death she wanted for Cersei

The actress would have dreamed of a confrontation with the character of Arya Stark played by Maisie Williams.

Warning, this article contains spoilers for the series Game Of Thrones.

Four years after the final episode of Game Of Throneswhose final season caused a lot of ink and tears (from fan disappointment), the actress Lena Headey revealed to Hollywood Reporter the death she dreamed of for her character. The actress played the cruel and charismatic Cersei Lannister, queen and wife of the first king Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) in season 1, then mother of the next king Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson), to finally explode everyone and become the sole occupant of the throne after a very long obstacle course (incest with twin brother Jaime, humiliation by a sadistic nun, toxic relationship with a filthy pirate).

Lena Headey explain that Maisie Williams and herself “fantasized about a final confrontation between Cersei and Arya, who would have returned with the appearance of Jaime.” Indeed, Arya Stark, the youngest of House Stark and one of the last survivors, keeps a morbid list of people she must assassinate to avenge her family members and Cersei is one of them. Arya is one of the characters who gains the most power in the series, since she learns from the Faceless, a mysterious brotherhood of assassins, to take the appearance of anyone to approach a target.

Headey And Williams therefore hoped for a final confrontation during which Arya took the appearance of Jaime Lannister (the twin brother, lover and father of Cersei’s children, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) to approach Cersei and finally take revenge. “It was our dream”, concludes the actress. Instead, Cersei dies under the collapse of the Red Keep alongside Jaime who has joined her to die with her. In addition, this would have satisfied fans who noted the fact that Arya has no longer used her face changing talent since the first episode of season 7 to take revenge on those responsible for the massacre of her family during the Red Wedding (l episode which traumatized the planet).

The actresses are not the only ones to be frustrated with the turn of season 8 since most fans had expressed their dissatisfaction and disappointment with the finale of the series. In the meantime, we can still imagine this epic confrontation between Cersei and Arya…

This former Game of Thrones sage hopes to return in the Jon Snow spin-off
