Gary Oldman finds himself “mediocre” as Sirius Black in Harry Potter

“Maybe if I had read the books like Alan Rickman, I would have played differently?”

Guest on the podcast Happy Sad Confused , Gary Oldman declared to Josh Horowitz about his incarnation of Sirius Black in the saga Harry Potter : “I think my work was poor.” A bit of a perfectionist, the illustrious antagonist of Fifth element verbalized all the difficulty of considering one’s acting performance positively, while never being completely satisfied with one’s work: “You want to improve next time.”

Gary Oldman says he regrets not having known the outcome of the plot, unlikeAlan Rickman who had to know the end of the saga of Rowling with the aim of honoring better performance.

Maybe if I had read the books like Alan, if I had had a head start, if I had known what would happen…I honestly think I would have played it differently,” explains the interpreter of Harry’s godfather.

Sirius Black, however, represents a role adored by fans of the franchise. With all due respect to its interpreter, Première also ranked it 3rd in the top of the 20 best characters in the saga !

The actor made his debut as Sirius Black in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, in 2004. He then reprized his role in two other installments, before his character was killed off in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in 2007.

During the podcast, Gary Oldman joked that he regrets his character leaving too soon: “I’m still angry about it.” Even if the adventure was too short, Gary Oldman said earlier this month, in The Drew Barrymore Show that his roles in Harry Potter And The Dark Knight have it “Safe” when he became a single father.

Although retirement rumors have recently surfaced, Gary Oldman remains on display Slow Horsesa spy series with dark humor, available on the AppleTV+ platform.
