Gen V season 1 ending explained ahead of The Boys season 4

Gen V season 1 ending explained ahead of The Boys season 4

The events of the last episode will have direct repercussions in the new season of the parent series.

If Gen V is a spin-off of The Boys, its first season was entirely connected to the original series. And it is logical that the bloody events that occurred at God U, in the finale of season 1, will have massive repercussions on season 4 of The Boys future. Spoiler alert!

Homelander arrived to end the chaos and his intervention led to history being rewritten. Cate and Sam, who instigated the massacre, were portrayed as the heroes of the day, while Marie, Jordan, Emma and André were singled out as terrorists. For what ?

“Cate and Sam are very ideologically aligned with Homelander’s position right now,” comments producer Eric Kripke in TVLine, in reference to the end of season 3, when Homelander allows himself to publicly kill a civilian who challenges him. He wants to prioritize the Supes against humans, no longer be a toy in their pay. Just like Sam and Cate. “And so when you agree with what Homelander thinks and feels, you tend to be pretty safe.”

The showrun of Gen VMichele Fazekas, immediately confirms that, in this last episode, the objective of Homelander “is to bring all these stupid kids back into line. Like: Have you forgotten what you are? Who we are? I think he’s angry that he has to get involved, that he was called out by Ashley, who was about to be murdered. It pisses him off and he’s angry. And for our heroes, who thought they were doing good, saving people, it’s a slap in the face (…) In short, they call Superman, and Superman lands and takes the side of the bad guys! It’s truly true Homelander style.”

Obviously, Homelander’s involvement means that this ending Gen V will have repercussions in The Boys. “I don’t really want to spoil it, but we continue on this path. Which is to say, it’s really what happens next in this universe: if you really want to do the heroic thing, like Marie and the others, usually that means you’ll end up being singled out as the bad guy, while those who do evil will tend to be shown as heroes. It’s a theme that has long applied in our universe – and it will continue throughout season 4 of The Boys.

Eric Kripke finally returns to the bonus scene, post-credits, in which Butcher (Karl Urban) makes a cameo and discovers “The Woods”. This will have “a certain importance”, in season 4 of The Boys, explains the producer, who reveals that this sequence even comes directly from the authors of the parent series. He explains that the virus developed in this secret lab hidden in the university will be a major element of the new season: “We knew we wanted the virus to be a big part of the Season 4 storyline, and we knew we wanted Butcher to be aware of it. We put it in Gen V to show that he is already on the trail of this virus…

He didn’t find it because this Supes-killing virus is no longer in “The Woods”. Victoria Neuman has it. And season 4 of The Boyscoming in 2024 on Prime Video, should therefore pit the sociopathic MP against Butcher and his team.
