George Clooney against the Nanny from Hell: Hollywood stars put pressure on Fran Drescher

The SAG-AFTRA strike is approaching 100 days and negotiations are struggling to succeed. The president Fran Dreschera.k.a The Nanny from Hellis therefore contested in Hollywood and solidarity among the actors begins to crack.

A group of A-list stars, led by George Clooney, met with her on Tuesday, as well as the union’s main negotiator. While they officially supported SAG-AFTRA in this dispute, the underlying message was that they were eager to get Hollywood back to work and that they weren’t sure the guild was on the path. good way to achieve this. Next to George Clooney, there were also Ben Affleck, Meryl Streep and Scarlett Johansson. They presented a proposal to increase contributions for high-income players and reconfigure the residuals so that they benefit those at the bottom of the income ladder.

Idea rejected, which led to George Clooney to make these recent discussions public (via Variety), thus putting pressure on Fran Drescher. Forced to react and regain control, she recorded a video on Instagram on Thursday, in which she explains that Clooney’s idea regarding contributions would not work, because it is prohibited by federal law and that she is therefore not part of the negotiation issues. “Unfortunately, this does not hold water“, she assures, promising that the bosses of the studios “will have to accept an unprecedented compensation structure. It may not be easy. Maybe that’s not what they want. But it’s an elegant way to solve the problem so we can all get back to work in what will become the new normal.”

SAG-AFTRA then sent a written note to members Thursday evening, again thanking the Clooney Group for their “ideas and support” but regrets the desire of the studios to circumvent the union: “The fact that the leaders of the networks, streaming companies and studios are willing to communicate directly with (these stars) is great. But the leaders should not think for a second that they can use the goodwill of member emissaries to distract us from our mission (…) So, for now, we encourage all members to defend our full proposal and go to the front.”
