Gerard Butler will play the leader of the Vikings again in live action Dragons

The actor already voiced Stoick “the brute” in the Dreamworks animated films.

Deadline just announced that Gerard Butler joined Mason Thames (aka Harold) and Nico Parker (Astrid) in the adaptation of Dragons live action. News that makes a direct link with the animated films since he already lent his voice to the leader of the Vikings, Stoick says “the bully” and father of the young hero, in the three parts released between 2010 and 2019. This flesh-and-blood version, written, directed and co-produced by Dean DeBlois, is expected in January 2025 at the cinema.

Will other key voice actors from the trilogy return to the cast of this live version? Cate Blanchett? Craig Ferguson? David Tennant? For now, Butler is the only actor from the original films to join this big-budget Universal project. Jay Baruchel and America Ferrera, who voiced the two young heroes Harold and Astrid, are too old to play them again.
