Henry Cavill confirms that he is indeed the new Highlander: “The training will begin in earnest”
The actor plans to soon swap his spy costume and his crew cut for the iconic outfit of the immortal.
Despite the confirmation of a remake project led by Chad Stahelskithe director of the films John Wick, there remained an air of mystery in the kingdom of the Highlanders… Who will have the makings of an immortal? Rumors suggested thatHenry Cavill was keenly considered for the role. It was during an interview for Collider for his spy film Argylle, thatHenry Cavill was able to look into the floating mystery: he will take over the role of Connard MacLeod. It’s time to wield the sword!
“Training is about to begin in earnest. The training process will be very long, and I am very excited to participate. There are limits to what I can tell you at the moment. I want everything to remain secret as long as possible.” explained future Connor MacLeod.
An article from Deadline dating from October 2023 indicated that the film will be a “big budget proposal” which will cost more than 100 million dollars. Its filming was then mentioned “current 2024”which remains very vague.
The original project from 1986, produced by Russell Mulcahyadapted from the screenplay of Gregory Widewas a fantasy and adventure film, composed of a promising cast: Christophe Lambert in the main role, Sean Connery And Roxanne Hart.
The plot revolved around a group of immortal beings, known as Highlandersdirected by Connor MacLeod (Christophe Lambert), who discovers he is part of the clan after surviving a fatal wound sustained during a battle in the 16th century. Connor must fight against other immortals throughout the saga, absorbing the power of those he beheads, in a process known as Quickening. The goal is to be the last man standing: “There can only be one left…“
The film was relatively unsuccessful when it was released in theaters, generating just over $12 million in revenue worldwide for a production budget of $19 million, but it gained popularity over the course of its reruns. on television, on VHS, then on DVD. This allowed the production to launch sequels and two spin-off series in the 1990s: one in live action and one animated. In France, after its preview presentation at the Avoriaz fantastic cinema festival (formerly Gerardmer), Highlander was a hit, generating more than 4 million admissions.
