Holly Hunter joins the Star Trek saga for Starfleet Academy

The Oscar winner will oversee Starfleet's newest class of cadets.

He is a recruit of choice for the Starfleet Academy. Paramount+ announces on the official account Star Trek that the actress Holly Hunter arrives in the galactic saga. The 66-year-old American star, Oscar winner for The Piano Lesson in 1993, will play “the captain and chancellor” of the future series currently in development.

Taking place on Federation Earth, Starfleet Academy will tell the story of the training of future space adventurers. Holly Hunter – whose character does not yet have a name – will therefore have the mission of supervising both the faculty and the new class of Starfleet cadets.

The co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman And Noga Landau are delighted: “It's like we've spent our whole lives watching Holly Hunter to be this foolproof genius. Having his extraordinary authenticity, his fearlessness, his sense of humor and his talent at all levels. She will lead Starfleet Academy and it is a gift to all of us and to the lasting legacy of Star Trek“.

Filming on the series will begin this summer, with no further casting announcements made yet.
