How does Fear the Walking Dead end? The end of the series explained

Who lives and who dies at the end of the last episode? And what should we understand? All the answers.

After 8 seasons and a hundred episodes, Fear the Walking Dead has ended. The grand finale is visible in France on Canal Plus and concludes the first spin-off of the great saga TWD, exactly one year after the original series. So how does it end? Spoiler alert!

Like the series in general, the grand finale of Fear was very confusing, uneven, and ultimately a bit disappointing. The characters of the spin-off have changed their minds about Revelation, people, good and evil so often that the narrative struggles to stay coherent. And this 8×12 episode, “The Road Ahead,” is proof.

If Strand has, a priori, indeed found the right path, determined to save the people of PADRE by all means, Madison believes that we should no longer try to improve the world. Because you get killed trying that. Or we drag our loved ones into death. So, she intends to run away with her “granddaughter”, Tracy. But Tracy doesn’t agree and goes to shoot him. Saved by Alicia’s St. Christopher medal (which stopped the bullet), Madison has yet another revelation and decides to go help everyone by sacrificing herself. She blows up PADRE and a horde of zombies that were threatening everyone on the island, allowing Strand and the others to escape. His heroic gesture will be remembered. As a result, Victor, Daniel, Luciana, June, Dwight and Sherry escape. They finish the series alive… but not as a group! We find them with the other PADRE survivors dispatching in the final scene. What the showrunners Fear the Walking Dead explain in an AMC video:

“We end with all our characters who are at a crossroads, literally, on a road. We end with this idea that they will each go their separate ways, to different places in this apocalyptic world, with the objective of building something better, inspired by Madison’s sacrifice. Because this ending is actually Madison’s story: the myth, the Madison legend is more important than Madison herself. If she survived, most importantly, it’s because her story has survived! She will be able to spread throughout this world. And that’s also how she will find Alicia. It’s almost a cosmic reward, something of karma, for Madison who followed through on her convictions.”

Because Madison was not killed in the PADRE explosion. She was saved by Tracy. And suddenly, miraculously, Alicia shows up!

Yes, Alycia Debnam Carey comes to make a final appearance in the series, she who left it during season 7. Unlike Lennie James, very absent from this finale. Morgan Jones experienced his last episode in the middle of season 8. He left with Grace to find Rick and Alexandria. We don’t know what happened to him.

Alicia is not dead. Neither the bite nor Troy was able to overcome it! She’s even in great shape. And by the way, she’s not Tracy’s mom at all! No matter… She finds her mother and the three of them finish the series together. Madison, Alicia and Tracy hit the road towards Los Angeles to help Californians in distress.

“Our series begins with Madison, the matriarch of a blended family in Los Angeles. So our ideal ending is this: Madison at the head of a new blended family, now made up of her daughter Alicia and her granddaughter. vicarious daughter, Tracy“, analyzes the showrunner in EW. “And they take with them, everything that they learned along the way, carrying this new legacy that they created that will spread through the apocalypse. And then we just create excitement around these incredible adventures that could await them on the road to Los Angeles now…”

We won’t see anything because Fear the Walking Dead will not have season 9. The series is over. The saga TWD will now continue with the spin-offs Daryl Dixon, Dead City And The Ones Who Live.
