How many Teslas were actually destroyed for Le Monde après nous?

In any case, Elon Musk didn’t really appreciate…

This is one of the most striking scenes of the World after us, the disaster movie Sam Esmail, which is currently a hit on Netflix. While Julia Roberts tries to reach New York, his character finds himself stuck on a highway full of Teslas! The automatic cars, visibly hacked, seem to be freewheeling and crash into each other on this expressway. They literally smash and pile up. A metaphor for modern technology that could turn against us?

In any case, Sam Esmail had a blast writing and filming this sequence. He was asked how many Teslas were actually destroyed during filming. And, amused, he replies:

“A good deal I must say! I wouldn’t know how many exactly. But I remember that it was a really fun day!”

The director goes further and confides to Première where he got this idea from: “When I was a kid, I loved having fun with little cars, destroying everything. And then, I was able to do that in real life. We added a few Teslas in CGI, in post-production. But There were still a good number of them in real life, which we used on the day of filming!”

The sequence, posted on the networks by Netflix, did not make the founder of Tesla laugh much, Elon Musk. He even responded on his Twitter account: “A Tesla can recharge from solar panels, even if the world goes completely Mad Max and there is no more gasoline!”

Certainly… but that’s not quite the point of this scene, which highlights the fragility of hackable technologies, such as self-driving cars. As a result, X users did not hesitate to wonder if Musk had really seen the film…
