Hunger Games no longer wants Jennifer Lawrence: “Her story is over!”

Yet the actress hopes for the opposite: “If Katniss comes back into my life, I’m 100% for it.”

While the new film Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Serpent and the Songbird will arrive in theaters on November 15, 2023, the producer Nina Jacobson and the director Francis Lawrence consider Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), the heroine of the first trilogy, will probably not return to our screens (via Yahoo Entertainment).

For starters, the new series takes place 60 years before the events of the first trilogy, making Katniss’s return impossible for the sake of narrative coherence. But concerning a return to the universe created by the novelist Suzanne Collins, Jacobson is categorical: “If Suzanne has something to say, then she writes a book about it. (…) Even though I love Katniss, I think her story is over. And I think Suzanne thinks the same thing.”, she explains.

Nevertheless, even if this return fantasy seems impossible, the producer does not hide her love of the character and her involvement in the case of a miracle: “But if that changes, and Suzanne has something to say that involves Katniss, I’ll be super excited.

Director Francis Lawrencedirector of the first three films, supports the importance for Suzanne Collins to give meaning to the stories she writes, going well beyond fan service: “Suzanne writes because she wants to explore a theme. I think if there’s one that she wants to develop and that makes sense to tell a new adventure of Katniss, I would be in it, and I’m sure that Jen (Jennifer Lawrence) would be too. But it all comes from a theme, an idea and Suzannne.” he concludes.

Fans shouldn’t get their hopes up, the days of Katniss Everdeen seem to be over. Even if her interpreter recently made it known that she would be up for playing again in the saga! “Oh, my God – But I’m totally up for it! If Katniss could come back into my life one day, I would be up for it 100%,” she responded last June, enthusiastically.

Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Serpent and the Songbird takes place 64 years before the revolution led by Katniss in the films. We follow a new heroine, Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) selected as a tribute from the 12th District for the tenth edition of the Hunger Games. Young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), who is not yet the President of Panem, becomes her mentor and is fascinated by the young woman’s magnetism on the crowd. He sees it as an opportunity to change his destiny and restore the image of a once powerful and disgraced family.

The film will be released in theaters on November 15, 2023.
