“I still don’t know why I saw Barbie!” John Carpenter didn’t understand everything

If there is anyone that the phenomenon barbie left perplexed, it’s good John Carpenter. The American director tells the LA Times that he saw the film this summer, like everyone else. And besides, he still doesn’t know why:
“I saw barbie. I still can’t believe I saw barbie besides… It’s just not my generation. I have nothing to do with dolls. I don’t know anything about it and I have to say that I didn’t even know who Allan was… Anyway, if I can summarize my feeling, it comes down to two scenes. At one point, barbie says, “I don’t have a vagina!” »And then at the end: “I’m going to my gynecologist!” » That sums up the whole film for me. I see that there is a story of patriarchy in there, but all that completely escaped me. It went completely over my head I must say…”
Brief, John Carpenter clearly didn’t like it barbie. The 74-year-old filmmaker clearly hasn’t quite embraced the message. But he loved it Margot Robbie : “I think she’s fabulous“, he concludes.
